# Choose and claim your Vocenya number

**In short:** After your free trial starts, search by area code and pick a local US number. Your trial includes one number. Your receptionist answers it as soon as it is set up.

Every Vocenya account has its own phone number. Your receptionist answers it. If you keep your existing business number, you forward it to this one.

## How to pick your number

1. After you start your free trial, you reach the **Number** step.
2. Enter the 3-digit area code your callers know, like 732, and search.
3. Pick a number from the list.
4. Confirm it. It is set up in a few seconds.

In the Vocenya app you can also search by city and state, like "Marlboro, NJ".

No numbers in your area code? Try a nearby one.

Numbers are local US numbers. Toll-free numbers are not offered at signup.

## How many numbers you get

- Your free trial includes **one** number, whatever plan you chose.
- On a paid plan you get the number of numbers your plan includes. See [plans and the free trial](/help/account-and-billing/plans-and-free-trial).

## Keeping your current business number?

You still need a Vocenya number. Your business number then forwards its calls to it, so callers keep dialing the number they know. [How to forward your calls](/help/phone-forwarding/forward-your-business-calls).

## If your plan ends

Your number is held for 30 days so you can come back and keep it. We email you reminders. After that it is released and can't be recovered.

If your free trial ends without a card, the number is held for 7 days instead.



## Frequently asked questions

### Does my Vocenya number answer calls right away?

Yes. As soon as the number is set up, your receptionist answers calls to it. Forwarding your existing business number is a separate step.

### Can I get a toll-free number?

Not at signup. Signup offers local US numbers by area code.
