Connect your Shopify store
Updated
In short
Make a small custom app for Vocenya in your Shopify admin and paste its details on the Integrations page. Your receptionist then looks up orders for customers and knows your products, prices and policies.
In this article
Connect your Shopify store and your receptionist can tell customers where their order is, and answer questions about your products, prices and store policies. It works on phone calls, website chat, texts and WhatsApp.
What works now
- Order status. A customer gives their order number and the email or phone number they ordered with. Your receptionist tells them if it has shipped, the carrier and tracking number, what was in it and when it should arrive.
- Products and prices. Up to 40 of your products, in-stock ones first, with their price, options and whether they are in stock.
- Policies and pages. Your refund, shipping, privacy and terms policies, and up to 5 published pages such as "About us".
- Kept up to date. We read your store every night. Product changes come in within a few minutes. You can also press Sync now.
Not yet: changing or cancelling orders, refunds, or adding the chat to your store automatically. For the chat, see add the chat to your website and pick the Shopify steps.
Connect it
Only the account owner can connect a store. It takes about five minutes.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings, then Apps, then Develop apps, and click Build apps in Dev Dashboard.
- Click Create app, name it "Vocenya" and click Create.
- Create a version. Leave the app URL as it is. Under Access, add these scopes and nothing else:
read_orders,read_customers,read_products,read_legal_policiesandread_online_store_pages. Click Release, then Install app and pick your store. - Open the app's Settings and copy the Client ID and Client secret.
- In Vocenya, open Integrations. On the Shopify card, enter your store address (like
your-store.myshopify.com), paste the Client ID and Client secret, and click Connect store.
You'll see Connected to your store's name. Your products and policies show on your Knowledge page under Your Shopify store within a minute.
Every scope is read-only. Vocenya never changes anything in your store.
Older custom apps
Made a custom app in your Shopify admin before 2026? Click Have an older custom app with an Admin API access token? and paste its token instead. Order look-ups need Shopify to share customers' emails and phone numbers with that app, which Shopify only does on the Grow plan or higher. Apps made in the Dev Dashboard don't have this limit.
How order look-ups stay private
- Your receptionist only shares an order after the customer gives both its number and the email or phone number on it.
- A wrong email and a wrong order number get the same answer, so nobody can find out whether an order exists.
- It never shares a customer's name, address or payment details. It shares the order's status, items and tracking only.
- After a few wrong tries on one order, or too many look-ups in one call or chat, it stops and offers a follow-up from your team.
Shopify lets apps read the last 60 days of orders. For older orders, your receptionist takes the customer's details for your team.
Your edits stay yours
Products and policies from your store go into your receptionist's price list and policies. Edit or remove any of them on the Knowledge page. The next sync keeps your version, and what you removed doesn't come back.
If it stops working
If the app is uninstalled or its secret is changed, Shopify stops letting Vocenya in. We email you, the card says Needs attention, and order look-ups stop. What your receptionist already knows stays. Connect again with the app's current details to fix it.
To disconnect, click Disconnect on the Shopify card. Products and policies from your store are removed, except any you edited. You can then delete the app in your Shopify Dev Dashboard.
HIPAA mode
In HIPAA mode your receptionist doesn't look up orders, because Shopify doesn't sign Business Associate Agreements. It still knows your products and policies.
